Make Digital Art

corel painter

Haven't had a go at making art digitally? There are at least two really great pieces of software out there for you to try. One that I've mentioned in an earlier post and Corel's Painter IX.5. You can download a two month trial version. It is the fully functional version, nothing has be disabled. Here's a WIP that i've made with Painter.

  1. Robin, I felt the same way and inspite of having had access to earlier versions of Photoshop and Painter I never got around to trying them. Until I came across Art Rage. The interface is soooo simple that its a pleasure to use it to paint and the feel is just as though you were painting. I'd never really laid on paint in thick layer because of the drying time etc. and also worrying about waste. All that is behind me with this app. It gives me the freedom to experiment. If you have the time just to try one - try this one. I know that i sound like a company sales executive but I'm not. I honestly cant believe that there something so nice out there and for free and so few seem to have tried it. Having understanding the basic concepts and the feel I've gone on to try Corel Painter and Photoshop and can now see their strengths too. It's definitely worth a try.

  2. Hello,
Using a painting program can be an illusion of painting too and the effects are always the same and easily detected...anyway the idea will be to use the program as a sketch book and use real paint and brushes to re-create what was done with the PC...
I am a French marine watercolor artist and I work that way. Paint or Corel are not free programs may be push the one stopping by your blog to use "GIMP" very good and free paint program :http://www.gimp.org/
Good luck and have fun painting.
    Patrice.

  3. Hi Patrice,

You are very right in saying that Corel Painter is not free and that is what I aim to post about here. This found a place here because the 2 month trial period is very generous and it has not been crippled in any way.

I'm a big fan of Art Rage 2 a very simple to use high calibre painting application (http://www.ambientdesign.com) They have a free version which you can use for as long as you like. Gimp I've heard is a very sophisticated software application and an alternative for Photoshop. I believe that it is a bit difficult to use. What is your opinion?

All that aside I would like to thank you for visiting and for taking the trouble to give me a resource for this blog. I really appreciate it.

And Good Luck to you too.
